Father Henry Baxa
Father Henry Baxa is 65 years old and he has been a priest for 16 years. His home parish is St. Isadore's in Cuba, Kansas. He grew up on a farm and attended rural grade schools at District 3 Wayne in Republic County. He then went to St. Francis Prep Seminary in Victoria, graduating in 1959.
Mr.Baxa studied at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. and St. Benedict's College in Atchison where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1964.
He taught for 23 years at the secondary level, including Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison, the Topeka Public Schools USD 501 for six years, and Concordia High USD 333 for sixteen years. He earned a Masters of Science in Education from Emporia State and did graduate work at Kansas State and The University of Kansas.
After a quarter of a century Father Henry Baxa returned to his priesthood studies attending St. Meinrad School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana. Upon completing a Masters of Divinity, Bishop Fitzsimons ordained Father Henry Baxa a priest on May 26th, 1990 at the age of 49.
His first pastoral assignment was at St. Francis Xavier in Junction City as a parochial vicar for two years. In 1992 he came to St. Andrew's in Abilene. Immaculate Conception in Solomon also became part of his pastoral responsibility in 1993.
In 1994 the Bishop transferred Father Henry Baxa to St. John the Baptist parish in Beloit, along with St. John's Grade School and St. John's High School. During these ten years his pastoral work also included St. Mary's in Glasco.
His parents, Henry and Blanche Baxa, are deceased. He has three sisters: Mary Ann Goodwin of Wichita, Lorene Baxa of Concordia, and Dorothy Oborny of Bellwood, Nebraska.
